No. Every translation I deliver is carried out entirely by me. Presenting AI-generated output as human translation would be a disservice to clients who commission work on the basis of human expertise and linguistic judgement. It is simply not something I am willing to do.
Scepticism is understandable in a time when AI tools are widely used. What I can offer is a body of work spanning 16 years: the consistency of register, the handling of domain-specific terminology, and the sensitivity to tone that it reflects. I welcome any client to review my work critically, and I am always willing to discuss my process in detail.
I rely on both traditional and online dictionaries. Having translated more than 2,000 reports, journals, and articles over 16 years, I have also built my own glossary, a carefully maintained repository of terminology that serves as the foundation for my translation work.
My work as a proofreader directly supports my translation practice. Having proofread more than a hundred PhD theses and top-tier journal articles, including much of the most current published work across several fields. Through this, I have developed an extensive familiarity with discipline-specific terminology. The two practices complement one another: proofreading deepens the vocabulary repository that translation draws upon.
I work alone. Every project is handled directly by me, from the first reading to the final delivery.
Reading was central to my formation as a linguist. Introduced to books from a very young age by a father who was both an English teacher and a Malay language educator, I developed a wide-ranging reading habit early, spanning English and Malay texts, fiction and non-fiction alike. Regular library visits broadened this further. That foundation, built across two languages and many genres, informs the sensitivity to register, tone, and the precise weight of words that I bring to my work today.
Because I was young once, and I wished I had known better. If my novels can help even one young reader understand and navigate the world with a little more clarity, that is enough.
